The Vital Importance Of Desires

The desires of the heart are what drive the human being. It is what causes us to go out and create, learn and seek to understand. It is our great motivator. People who have had or are currently under most religious upbringing have all but been deprived of that motor.

I have seen people remain aimless and stuck in jobs because they have trampled down the desires of their heart. Religions have taught them to abandon their desires which they call “sinful” for the “desires of God” which are things like missionary work, ministry, working for the Church, etc. So, a lot of unhappy people congregate in the same building week after week because they have lost direction in their lives.

They work for the Church and they say that it's their “calling”. It's not. Not all the time. Ministry, like any other thing humans like to accomplish, is perfectly fine, but you are not to disregard the desires of your heart to force yourself to do these things. When you push towards the desires of your heart you have a drive within you second to none. Nothing can motivate you more that doing something you really want to do. At times, it may be the only thing that you see. It causes you to tap into energy that you didn't even know you had.

So, why then do preachers often call succumbing to your desires sinful? There are probably a plethora of reasons which I will not be able to elaborate on, but one major reason is because of what the Bible alludes to. When texts like James 1:14 and Isaiah 58:13 are misinterpreted, you start feeling like the things that you desire to do are evil. Couple that with scriptures like Matthew 16:24 where Jesus is telling his disciples that people who seek to follow after Him must “deny himself, take up his cross and follow me,“ you can begin to see where people would become afraid of their desires.

Additionally, the Bible says humans are born in sin and shaped in iniquity and so we start to think that nothing that we do is right. So, now what do we do? We've tried everything to surrender our desires and follow God and, as a result, we have become all but useless. It's funny that people believe that our desires are sinful from such a reading of the Bible and almost completely omit the scriptures saying otherwise.

For example, Psalms 37:4, Mark 11:24 and even 1 Chronicles 4:10 all speak of asking God for your desires. Couple that with “...ye have not because ye ask not,” and the very crazy promise “...and if that had been too little, I would moreover have given unto thee such and such things.” How can God be saying your desires are wicked but also we need to tell THEM of our desires so that THEY can bring them about?

These scriptures are not opposed to each other. In fact, they aren't even talking about the same things. But you wouldn't understand that if you don't know God personally. Our desires come from us being alive and seeing and experiencing the world. It causes us to want to explore and achieve and God is more than thrilled to bring that to us.

Then people say, ‘oh, well our desires come more in line with God when we crucify our own desires for God.’ Do not believe this type of rhetoric, it will slowly kill you. The “old man” that needs to be crucified is something that you haven't likely understood yet. That is, if what this article is telling you is news to you, then yeah, you don’t know what the ‘old man’ means to you. It is different for everyone but the Holy Spirit will slowly but surely show you, do not fret. But you will only learn if you desire it.

Now, understand how powerful desire is. The earth and the universe were not simply just created. God didn't say, “Meh. Maybe I'll make a planet with some crazy bi-peds who will misconstrue everything with their limited thinking.” We were not an afterthought or some creation cause God just got bored one day. Have you not read, “...for I am fearfully and wonderfully made?” Or what about, “God Himself that formed the earth and made it, He hath established it. He created it not in vain. He formed it to be inhabited.” Does this make earth seem like an afterthought?

No. God created the earth from sheer, earnest desire and it came into being. Simply by uttering THEIR deep desire and forming the clay with THEIR own hands did THEIR desire come to fruition. Moreover, Jesus…? Jesus didn't come down, suffer and die from an obligation that God felt THEY had. You cannot endure the things Jesus did simply because you were obligated. That is bullshit and everyone knows it. There was a driving force behind Jesus' actions and it was pure desire. That pure desire to have us wrapped in His loving arms for eternity! Free to explore and create, ask questions and learn! You have not known that level of deep desire or love, but God has and that is THEIR motivation and fuel.

If you, then, crush out your desires for obligation, you are making yourself useless. Humans have replaced desire with obligation and tried to place God's stamp of approval on it because they can make it seem like the Bible supports them. The Bible doesn't support them and God's true stamp of approval is not on it. You will know when God approves a message in line with THEIR existence. I can't say how, but I can confirm that you will indeed know.

There are, thus, Christians and vagabonds who are in the same desireless boat. Christian's have willingly let go of their desires for a perceived “higher calling” but that perception is incorrect. Vagabonds have had their desires crushed by the weight of the sinfulness of the world. They cannot or refuse to meet societal obligations, for example. Or they feel like society keeps beating them down or won't allow them to do a thing, or whatever the reasoning is. And what is left of these two groups of people are simply living shells of humans.

To find true purpose in their lives, they must allow God to reignite their passions, their desires and to hope for them, but in God. This is how they will become a fiery, unstoppable force. Their desires are what will cause them to walk on water, if needed, or to feed 5 thousand with just a few small fish and some bread. It will be what causes them to heal the sick and stop armies in their tracks. Those desires, founded in God, will grow and blossom into the sturdiest and most fruitful of all the trees in the garden. You will feel whole and God will be your foundation, and as Jesus said, NOTHING will be impossible for you.

Now, you can have that desire and drive in the absence of God, for desire is a piece of what makes a human a human. I would STRONGLY recommend against that. It will turn you into something corrupted and evil. We have seen that many times over in history with all the politicians and corrupt governments and notably, Lucifer. The problem is, without genuine love, which is the embodiment of God, there is no good and no life. It is your choice to make but if you wish to be wise, I suggest that you seek God while pushing for your desires. There are many other reasons for this as well besides corruption and eventual permanent non-existence.

God will help you achieve your desires as mentioned above. Also, your stress and anxiety levels will drastically reduce if not completely disappear. When things get tough and you don't know what to do or which way to go, God will show you or lead you, or take you. You will also experience a rest like no one would believe. You will not find yourself feeling like you NEED to do something today or tomorrow. You will be able to rest knowing that God has it under control.

Speaking of having it under control, God will also be your protector from, well, everything. THEY will protect you from people who will intentionally or unintentionally seek to destroy you. God will also cause you to succeed when others would stand in your way. The things that God will do on your behalf are limitless and beyond imagination. I speak from pure experience. This doesn't mean things won't be tough and that you won't be dismayed at times. You will have to be because the earth is full of sin and so are you. When those hard times arrive just go to God and tell THEM your honest, uncut feelings. Watch as God teaches you and heals you, then gives you the strength and fortitude again to press on towards your desires.

So now go, and ask God to re-ignite your passions and to be with you. Learn who God is and be as amazed as I am. See how God made no mistakes in creating you and your ability to have desires and act on them. Go and manipulate this universe with your desires and see how God will cause them to come to pass.
