Gay Christian Man, You Don't Need To Be Celibate

Human beings' current relationship with God is one where they think that God seeks to abase them. It is a very human thing to think that. What’s more is that they will back it up using the Bible. In fact, every single one of their wretched, horrible thoughts that they’ve garnered “on God’s behalf” is established in their reading of the Bible. This is a very clear example of how even the promises and revelation of God can be corrupted by sinful man. Everything that man can get their paws on, they corrupt. The pure, good news of the gospel they have corrupted and turned into a thing to be feared and despised. How can man turn something so awesome into something so dreadful with complete sincerity and conviction? Sin.

People have read the Bible and claimed any number of egregious things on God’s behalf such as: God approves of slavery, wives should be subject to their husbands (in the most humiliating ways possible), women shouldn’t speak in public spaces or hold offices, God hates gay people, God doesn’t hate gay people but gay people can’t have intercourse with each other, marriage is between only a man and a woman. Just any number of things the wicked and sinful mind can come up with and base it on the Bible, they do.

But just because they are a scholar of the Bible, or just because they have read the Bible a million times. Or just because the Bible seems “utterly clear” about what it says does not mean they are correct. In fact, unless they have the Holy Spirit freely working within them, it is highly likely that their interpretation is erroneous and deadly. And if you are reading the Bible and feeling condemnation from God, though the only thing that you have done is exist, I can assure you that you, too, are reading erroneously.

Hear the good news and let it be understood by your heart: God LOVES you. What does that mean? It means a whole lot of things that you do not know or understand right now, but you will, with time and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. God’s objective is that you enjoy this world and the only way to really, freely do that is to do it with your Creator and, thus, freely. As humans, we know how important family is to our wellbeing, be it blood family or chosen family; do not, then, cast away our Parent.

But we have, indeed, cast God away. Perhaps not you specifically, because you simply did not know, but our parents did and/or their parents did. Thus, they left God and birthed us into a world almost devoid of God. But our Creator cannot be squeezed out and THEIR truth cannot be silenced. Our ancestors disregarded God but we don’t have to. So, they hated God and have poisoned the earth and we, unfortunately, have reaped the whirlwind. But God.

God has not stopped fighting for us. God seeks every single person alive if, perchance, they would be inclined to come back into His/Her embrace. Absence of God is death, this we have seen. Sicknesses incurable. Diseases unknown. Corrupt governments. Corrupt religions. Wars. Fear. This is the result of hating love. But if you have seen this and wondered why, turn and ask God and God will show you and save you from the consequences of our forefathers.

And so, if you are reading the Bible, there is but one lens through which you should read it: love. God is the epitome of love; true love. And if you are reading the Bible you must do so having sincerely and openly asked God to reveal the truth to you, correcting you if need be. Once again, if your heart begins to panic when reading it, your understanding is skewed: “For God has not given us the Spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7)

Read again the conversation of Jesus with the lawyer: Which is the greatest commandment? LOVE the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your mind and with all your strength. And the second is likened to it: Love your neighbor as yourself. Upon these are hung all the law and the prophets. (Matthew 22:36-40). God isn’t about fire, brimstone and punishment. God wants to be loved by you as much as THEY love you. Thus, everything in the Bible should be read through these lenses and with the whisperings of the Holy Spirit.

Now understand this: “All things were made by Him (Jesus/God/The Word). And without Him was not anything made that was made.” (John 1:3) (See also Colossians 1:16, 17). “I know and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus Christ, that there is nothing unclean of itself.” (Romans 14:14) “...whatsoever is not of faith is sin.” (Romans 14:23) I’m speaking to my LGBTQ family specifically but this applies to anyone: You were created the way that you are, and you are not unclean, you are not an abomination. You have been taught that you are but you have been lied to in the name of God and it is an atrocity. Only seek God so we don’t perpetuate this hell that has been cast upon us by those that came before us.

This means that God isn’t calling you, gay Christian man, to be celibate for the rest of your life. If you seek to be married to a man, then go do so and take God with you. If you don’t want to be married but still want to have same-sex intercourse, please do so, but take God with you (it’s not as strange as it may sound). Again, if you feel panicked or judged by the very thought, then you are using man’s method of thinking and not God’s Spirit. It’s ok, because if you desire, God will clear up any misunderstandings that you have. Read Romans 14 again in this new light: “Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not. And let not him which eateth not judge him which eateth: For God had received him.” (Romans 14:3)

All things are for you to do, only love yourself and your sisters and brothers while doing them and develop and carry an intimate relationship with God in your heart and you will never go wrong. Upon this is hung ALL of the laws and the prophets. And in seeking God you will begin to repair the breach that our ancestors have created. (Isaiah 58:12).
